Scene 1 · Beginner
One winter day, a queen sat by a window sewing. Outside, it was snowing, and the window frame was made of black ebony. The queen pricked her finger with the needle, and three drops of blood fell onto the snow.
Red looked so beautiful against the white snow that she wished for a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the window frame.
Soon afterward, the queen gave birth to a little girl who looked just as she had wished. That was why the girl was given the name Snow White. But the queen died when the child was born.
