Un înger o vizitează pe Maria
An angel visits Mary
— Bucură-te, tu, căreia Dumnezeu i-a arătat atâta bunăvoință! Domnul este cu tine.
English translation
Elizabeth was six months pregnant when God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. Mary lived there, a virgin engaged to Joseph, a descendant of David. The angel went in to her and greeted her:
“Rejoice, you who have received such favor from God! The Lord is with you.”
Romanian
Ești binecuvântată între femei!
English translation
“You are blessed among women!”
English translation
At the sight of the angel and the sound of his words, Mary was troubled. She wondered what such a greeting could mean.
Romanian
— Nu te teme, Maria, i-a spus îngerul. Dumnezeu ți-a arătat bunăvoință.
English translation
“Do not be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her. “God has shown you favor. You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David.”
English translation
“He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever, and his kingdom will never end.”
English translation
“How can this happen, since I am a virgin?” Mary asked.
English translation
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you,” the angel replied. “That is why the holy child who will be born to you will be called the Son of God. And Elizabeth, your relative, is expecting a son, even though she is old.”
English translation
“She, who was said to be unable to have children, is now six months pregnant. Nothing God says is impossible.”
English translation
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary said. “May it happen to me as you have said.”
Romanian
Atunci îngerul a plecat de la ea.
English translation
Then the angel left her.
