Τα παλιά χρόνια, όταν οι ευχές μπορούσαν ακόμη να γίνουν πραγματικότητα, ζούσε ένας βασιλιάς με πολλές όμορφες κόρες. Η μικρότερη όμως ήταν τόσο όμορφη, που ακόμη κι ο ήλιος, παρόλο που είχε δει τόσα πράγματα, θαύμαζε το πρόσωπό της κάθε φορά που το φώτιζε.
English translation
Long ago, when wishes could still come true, there lived a king with many beautiful daughters. But the youngest was so beautiful that even the sun, though it had seen so much, admired her face whenever it shone on her.

Κοντά στο κάστρο απλωνόταν ένα μεγάλο, σκοτεινό δάσος. Εκεί, κάτω από μια γέρικη φλαμουριά, υπήρχε ένα πηγάδι. Τις πολύ ζεστές μέρες η πριγκίπισσα πήγαινε στο δάσος και καθόταν δίπλα στο δροσερό νερό. Όταν βαριόταν, πετούσε ψηλά τη χρυσή της μπάλα και την έπιανε ξανά. Ήταν το αγαπημένο της παιχνίδι.
English translation
A great, dark forest stretched near the castle. There, beneath an old linden tree, was a well. On very hot days, the princess would go to the forest and sit by the cool water. When she was bored, she would throw her golden ball high into the air and catch it again. It was her favorite toy.
