Scene 1 · Intermediate

Egy angyal meglátogatja Máriát

An angel visits Mary

English translation

Elizabeth was already in the sixth month of her pregnancy when God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a city in Galilee. The angel came to a woman named Mary. Mary was a virgin, and she was engaged to a man named Joseph. Joseph was a descendant of David.

English translation

The angel went in and greeted Mary: “Rejoice, Mary! God has shown you special favor. The Lord is with you, and you are blessed among women!”

Hungarian

Máriát nyugtalansággal töltötték el ezek a szavak. Azon gondolkodott, vajon mit jelenthet ez a szokatlan köszöntés.

English translation

These words made Mary uneasy. She wondered what this unusual greeting could mean.

English translation

“Do not be afraid, Mary, for God has shown you favor,” the angel continued. “You will give birth to a son, whom you will name Jesus. He will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign forever over Jacob’s descendants, and his kingdom will never end.”

Hungarian

– Hogyan lehetséges ez, hiszen szűz vagyok? – kérdezte Mária.

English translation

“How can this be, since I am a virgin?” Mary asked.

Hungarian

– A Szentlélek száll le rád, és a Magasságos ereje borít be – válaszolta az angyal. – Ezért a születendő szent gyermeket Isten Fiának fogják nevezni.

English translation

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you,” the angel replied. “That is why the holy child who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Your relative Elizabeth is also expecting a son, even though she is already old. The woman people said could not have a child is now in her sixth month. Nothing is impossible for God, and everything he says can come true.”

Hungarian

– Az Úr szolgálója vagyok – felelte Mária. – Történjen velem úgy, ahogyan mondtad.

English translation

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary replied. “May it happen to me as you have said.”

Hungarian

Ezután az angyal eltávozott.

English translation

Then the angel left.
