When Elizabeth was in her sixth month of pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. He went to Mary, a young virgin who was engaged to Joseph, a descendant of David. When the angel entered, he greeted her:
“Rejoice! You have received great favor from God. The Lord is with you.”

Mary was very troubled by those words and tried to understand what the greeting meant. The angel continued:
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for God has looked on you with favor. You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, whom you will name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”

Your relative Elizabeth is also expecting a child, despite her old age. She, who was considered unable to have children, is already in her sixth month of pregnancy.”
