Elżbieta była w szóstym miesiącu ciąży, gdy Bóg posłał anioła Gabriela do Nazaretu, miasta w Galilei. Miał on odwiedzić Maryję, dziewicę zaręczoną z Józefem, który pochodził z rodu Dawida. Anioł wszedł do niej i powiedział:
– Raduj się, Maryjo, Bóg obdarzył cię wielką łaską! Pan jest z tobą. Jesteś błogosławiona wśród kobiet!
English translation
Elizabeth was six months pregnant when God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. He was to visit Mary, a virgin betrothed to Joseph, who was descended from the house of David. The angel came to her and said:
“Rejoice, Mary, God has shown you great favor! The Lord is with you. You are blessed among women!”

At the sight of him, Mary felt uneasy. She wondered what these unusual words of greeting meant.

Pan Bóg da mu tron jego przodka Dawida. Będzie na zawsze panował nad potomkami Jakuba, a jego królestwo nigdy się nie skończy.
English translation
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for God has shown you favor,” the angel said. “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign forever over the descendants of Jacob, and his kingdom will never end.”

Twoja krewna Elżbieta również spodziewa się syna, choć jest już stara. Nazywano ją bezpłodną, bo nie mogła mieć dzieci, a teraz jest już w szóstym miesiącu ciąży. Bóg może spełnić każde swoje słowo.
English translation
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy child you will give birth to will be called the Son of God. Your relative Elizabeth is also expecting a son, even though she is already old. She was called barren because she could not have children, but now she is already six months pregnant. God can make every one of his words come true.”
