A warning at the river
English translation
Moses and Aaron spoke to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, on behalf of the Israelites. But Pharaoh still refused to let the people go.
English translation
God said to Moses:
“Pharaoh is stubborn and refuses to let you go. In the morning he will go out to the water. Meet him on the riverbank and take with you the staff that turned into a snake. Tell him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me with these words from him: Let my people go so that they may serve me in the wilderness. You have not listened to me so far.’”
English translation
Moses was to warn Pharaoh what would happen. God told him to say that the water in the river would turn to blood when struck with the staff. The fish would die, the river would stink terribly, and the Egyptians would find its water disgusting to drink. Then Pharaoh would know that God is the Lord.
English translation
Then God told Moses to tell Aaron to take his staff and stretch out his hand over all the waters of Egypt: the rivers, streams, lakes, and other bodies of water. The water was to turn to blood throughout the country, even in wooden and stone vessels.
